All I wanted was to sleep again. Dream. I did die in my pajamas after all. I was ready. I miss that rest, the escape. That luscious eight hour break. Turns out, though, monsters never get a break. Sleep is no escape. It’s only a nest to hatch more nightmares. You don’t get to wake up, heart pounding and realize, “God, that was just a dream.” You don’t get that euphoria of being spared. Because for us, nightmares really do come true. They already have.
